3rd Equity Ensemble Awards - Winners announced!

The actors who starred in a powerful, contemporary drama series about Indigenous Australians living in Redfern, a quirky comedy that follows a dysfunctional family gathering for Christmas and a miniseries that recounts the devastating effect of the James Hardie asbestos saga have won the 3rd annual Equity Ensemble Awards.

The cast members of Redfern Now, A Moody Christmas and Devil’s Dust were voted – by members of Actors Equity Australia – the winners of the 3rd Equity Ensemble Awards.

The Equity Ensemble Awards are proudly supported by FOXTEL and ABC TV.

Established by the Equity Foundation in 2011, the Equity Ensemble Awards honour outstanding performances by Australian television ensembles in Australian drama, comedy and miniseries programs.

“2012 was yet another fantastic year for Australian television. Their awesome individual performances notwithstanding, Australian actors once again demonstrated the art of the ensemble, showing audiences that the whole is sometimes greater than the sum of its parts,” said Equity president Simon Burke.

“To be voted the best of best by your peers – fellow actors who know what it takes to craft a fine performance – is a huge honour.  Given the calibre of this year’s finalists the casts of A Moody Christmas, Redfern Now and Devi’s Dust should be very proud.” said Burke.

“Our local shows just get better and better, as demonstrated by the surge in international interest. Let’s make sure we keep them coming and keep Australian stories on our screens,” said Equity director Sue McCreadie.

Winners will be honoured with Dinosaur Design trophies at a ceremony in Sydney on May 20, 2013.
The Equity Foundation thanks our industry sponsors for their generous support. Both the Drama Award and the Comedy Award are once again proudly sponsored by ABC TV and this year we are delighted to announce FOXTEL will be joining us to present the Miniseries Award.
