The Equity Professional Program

The Equity Foundation hosts more than 100 events a year throughout Australia and New Zealand. The program is developed in close collaboration with performers.

The Equity Foundation's masterclasses are designed to address our members’ need for ongoing professional development and provide rare opportunities to work with leading directors, coaches and casting agents.
Our workshop series is an opportunity to work on specifics, such as acting for the camera, comedy, dancing, voiceovers and accents. Up to 10 members work over a two-hour period with an expert in their field.
In Conversation
As part of the foundation’s In Conversation series, performers are given the opportunity to attend an intimate question and answer session with leading international actors and directors. Sir Ian McKellen, Richard E Grant, Sam Neill, and Cate Blanchett are among those who have participated in the In Conversation events.
Casting Hothouse 
Each year the Equity Foundation hosts a Casting Hothouse, which gives performers a unique opportunity to work with international casting agents, such as CBS TV Studios’ vice president of casting Matt Skrobalak and US feature film casting director Margery Simkin.
Student Days
We know how difficult it can be getting a toehold in the entertainment industry, so each year the Equity Foundation holds an industry day designed to provide graduates with important information and tools to help them on their way to a successful performance career.

Talk and coaching workshop with voiceover artist, Abbe Holmes
Changes in the online and digital world are changing the landscape of voiceover and after participating in the Voicover Convention - Voice 2014 - in LA last year, Abbe Holmes will give Equity members all the latest information and trends. Anyone working in voiceover needs to know how to position themselves to make the most of the emerging landscape and new areas of work.This talk and coaching session is for those who are currently working in voiceover or have had some experience as a voice actor.  The talk will include a 4 hour plus coaching session on script styles, script techniques and how to approach scripts with the advertiser in mind. Scripts will be provided and all participants will have an opportunity to work one-on-one with Abbe to perfect their technique.

Bio of Host
Abbe Holmes has worked solidly as a voiceover artist and actor for over thirty years, voicing mainstream radio and television, corporate video’s, dvd’s and documentaries.  She’s the regular voice for Spotlight Stores, Chemist Warehouse and Garnier. She also coaches voiceover technique with courses, private training and demo production.  Since the 1980’s she’s worked extensively in animation with Principal Cast roles in ‘The Greatest Tune on Earth’, ‘Li’l Elvis and the Truckstoppers’, ‘Little Horrors’, ‘Dogstar’ and ‘The Flamin’ Thongs’. She was the voice of ‘Plasmo’, and has had guest roles in ‘The Silver Brumby’ and ‘Ocean Girl’.  Her acting work has included roles in Principal Cast for ‘Law of the Land’ and the US TV Series ‘Ponderosa’ shot in Victoria.  Her many Guest roles include appearances in The Man From Snowy River’ ‘Phoenix’, ‘State Coroner’, ‘Round The Twist’ ‘Satisfaction’, ‘Blue Heelers’, ‘Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries’, and ‘Laid 11’.  In 2010 appeared in the Feature Film, ‘The Caretaker’ and in 2014, starred in the short film ‘Slow Cooker’. Abbe’s been a proud Equity member since 1979 and involved with the union since the 1980’s, mostly in the area of voiceover, where she’s worked with Equity to set rates and conditions in the voiceover industry.  She’s been a member of the National Performers Committee since 1999, served as Victorian President from 2005-2007, and is the current Victorian President.
