An opportunity to spend a day with television and feature film director Simon Bennett. Simon will work on different texts and all actors will have the opportunity to workshop their scenes.
Bio of host:
Simon Bennett has an extensive directing and producing career in New Zealand film, television drama and theatre. Simon’s screen directing experience includes episodes of Dirty Laundry, Westside, The Blue Rose, The Almighty Johnsons, Outrageous Fortune, Diplomatic Immunity and Shortland Street. He also directed telefeature Spies and Lies and feature film Sione’s 2: Unfinished business. Simon produced Shortland Street from 1997 to 2000 and 2013 to 2016. From 2001 to 2013 he was Executive Producer of the show. Simon also produced award-winning children’s fantasy series Maddigan’s Quest and adult fantasy series The Almighty Johnsons. In theatre, Simon was a co-founder of BATS Theatre in Wellington, where he launched his directing career in 1989. Since then he has directed for Circa, Downstage, Taki Rua, Centrepoint, The Watershed Theatre, Nomis Productions, Auckland Theatre Company and the NZ Actors’ Company. His favourite theatre work includes Sondheim’s musicals Into The Woods and Assassins, Shakespeare’s The Shrew, Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Ken Duncum’s play: Blue Sky Boys.
