Laura Gardner is hosting the second of the Howard Fine Acting Studio's Equity Foundation workshops in Australia. This workshop will focus on personalisation and authenticity in song. The program will explore the key acting principles of The Howard Fine Studio and will show their dramatic impact when applied to the arena of musical performance. This workshop is suitable for singers, cabaret artistes and musical theatre performers and gives participants the tools to deepen the connection to their work allowing for a powerful emotional investment. Participants are asked to bring three songs with sheet music. A pianist will be present to accompany each singer.
Bio of host: Laura is an international acting teacher, performer and director who has been on the faculty of the Howard Fine Acting Studio in Hollywood for over 16 years.
She has taught at The Actors Workshop and the Academy of Musical Theatre, at the prestigious HB Studios in New York, the famous Stella Adler Institute, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and for the Screen Actors Guild Conservatory in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New Mexico. She is also an annual featured artist at The Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, Alaska. You may have seen Laura and her actor husband, Frank Collison, recurring on the NBC hit My Name is Earl. Other television and film credits include Shredd (series regular), Law and Order LA, The Forgotten with Christian Slater, Criminal Minds, Crash, ER, The West Wing and Close to Home amongst many others. She has had a successful stage career performing both on and off Broadway, in national tours and at major theatres around America. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress by the LA Weekly for her performance in Fighting Words and was honoured by Media Actors for her 20 years of teaching actors with disabilities. Laura trained at Boston University, Rutgers and H. B. Studios; where she studied with Uta Hagen and Carol Rosenfeld.
