The Equity Professional Program

The Equity Foundation hosts more than 100 events a year throughout Australia and New Zealand. The program is developed in close collaboration with performers.

The Equity Foundation's masterclasses are designed to address our members’ need for ongoing professional development and provide rare opportunities to work with leading directors, coaches and casting agents.
Our workshop series is an opportunity to work on specifics, such as acting for the camera, comedy, dancing, voiceovers and accents. Up to 10 members work over a two-hour period with an expert in their field.
In Conversation
As part of the foundation’s In Conversation series, performers are given the opportunity to attend an intimate question and answer session with leading international actors and directors. Sir Ian McKellen, Richard E Grant, Sam Neill, and Cate Blanchett are among those who have participated in the In Conversation events.
Casting Hothouse 
Each year the Equity Foundation hosts a Casting Hothouse, which gives performers a unique opportunity to work with international casting agents, such as CBS TV Studios’ vice president of casting Matt Skrobalak and US feature film casting director Margery Simkin.
Student Days
We know how difficult it can be getting a toehold in the entertainment industry, so each year the Equity Foundation holds an industry day designed to provide graduates with important information and tools to help them on their way to a successful performance career.

Audition - Prep For Pilot With Barefoot Casting - Afternoon Session

* Please note: This Equity Foundation Workshop will also be held from 9am - 12pm on June 16. Please only apply for one workshop in EITHER the morning or afternoon. Duplicate applications will be be accepted*

An opportunity to work with Mike and Matt Dwyer in one of their Prep For Pilot clinics tailored especially for Equity members. It will be a chance to work in a quick, pilot season-focused way. They will give very specific direction and it will be less of an acting class and more of an audition experience with 1 rehearsal then 2 takes. An opportunity to work on your planning, inspiration and flexibility. All scenes will be 1 pagers and all styles - from intimate to epic, sit-com to drama. The focus will be on US accent, on-screen character presence and natural charisma. Up to 10 attendees will take part in the morning timeslot with another 10 attendees taking part in the afternoon timeslot.

Bio of hosts:
Mike Dwyer has worked as a professional actor for 18 years. He trained, performed and toured with The Questors Theatre in Ealing, London (87 – 90). In New Zealand, along with many acting roles – both on-screen and stage, he directed & devised theatre - How to Score Drugs (Solo Fringe Wgtn 1997) Sad Ape (Axe-with Group – Site-specific 1999). He produced an adaptation of The Cherry Orchard (Herald Theatre 1998) directed Jackie Van Beek’s The Mayfly (Silo Theatre 2001) and directed a piece for the Short & Sweet Festival (2011). He has worked in the New Zealand casting industry since 2000.

Matt Dwyer has been a professional actor for 17 years. He trained at Auckland’s Unitec Drama School (97 – 99) and gained a Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts. He has toured in theatre and performed many roles on-screen – most notably as Shortland Streets’ evil Dr. Brett Franklin (2014/15).His producing credit’s include the short film Intake (2009) and a comedy TV pilot The Acid Test. He has worked in the New Zealand casting industry since 2002.

Matt & Mike have owned Barefoot Casting since 2005. Their film and television casting credits include: Feature Film – Mahana, The Dark Horse, The Most Fun You Can Have Dying, The Devil’s Rock, The Devil Dared Me To, A Song of Good, This Giant Papier Mache’ Boulder is Actually Really Heavy – All NZ. Television – Filthy Rich – Seasons 1 & 2 - NZ, Camp – NZ search - US, Cancerman – The Milan Brych Affair – NZ. Short Film – Aphrodites Farm (Crystal Bear, Berlin), Dotty (Audience Award - Naples / Best Comp – Nantucket / 1st Place – Rhode Island) Kitten Witch, The Dragon’s Scale, Over The Moon, Tree, Sista, Akilah’s Miracle, 21 Points, Amadi, Eating Sausage, Clean Linen, Ebony Society, Dead Letters – All NZ. Podcast Short Film – Some Of My Best Friends Are American (Huffington Post Weekly Award) - NZ. TV Commercial territories they have cast for include: Worldwide, New Zealand, Australia, USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Western & Eastern Europe, Russia, China, South East Asia, India, Japan, Middle East, Sth & Central America.
