Synopsis

Equity is pleased to announce that renowned singing teacher Peter Bodnar will work with up to 10 dancers on their singing skills in this upcoming workshop designed specifically for dancers who want to work on their singing technique. Peter will work on their audition technique, song choices, vocal technique, artistry and song interpretation and vocal health. The successful dancers will be required to bring two songs with both words and music so Peter can work individually with them. Please note this workshop is specifically targeted for dancers who also sing and may appreciate extra support. Please also note that not all applications will be successful as Peter can only work with a limited number of dancers in the 2 hour time frame but all applicants will be placed on a waiting list and more sessions will be scheduled at a later time. Please note: This event is at 5:30pm AEDT (Sydney/Melbourne time) and in person at the Sydney Actors School 242 Young Street, Waterloo, New South Wales, 2017, Australia

Host(s)

  • Peter Bodnar

Peter studied at the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education majoring in Singing, now the University of Southern Queensland. Upon leaving there he studied with renowned Australian tenor Donald Smith at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, while working with Opera Queensland as a chorister and understudy for three seasons 1986-1988. While also working with The Queensland Theatre Company in their musicals Snoopy and the Sentimental Bloke, which made a repeat performance on the River Stage at Expo 88. The following years were spent touring Australasia in musicals and plays such as The Art of Being Still, South Pacific, Evita, Fiddler on the Roof, The Mikado and HMS Pinafore and working in television and opera with Opera Australia. Peter continues to perform internationally with the highly successful corporate act The Three Waiters. Unanswered questions about his own technique and vocal limitations led Peter to look further into the science of the voice, where he found the work of Jo Estill, whose method is used in voice studios and speech pathology clinics worldwide. After more 20 years of studying and working with this method, Peter became a Certified Practitioner in 2018 and is in the process of completing his Master Trainer qualification. Peter is now a leading Singing Teacher within the Music Theatre industry in Australia, having worked with notable Music Theatre performers Hayden Tee for his Broadway and West End Les Miserables performances, Dimitri Klieoris for his Broadway performance in American In Paris, Marika Aubrey for her performance in Matilda the musical and the USA tour of Come From Away, Natalie Abbott for her performance in Muriel’s Wedding and Ashleigh Rubenach for her performances in Muriel’s Wedding, Sydney Carols, Cry Baby, My Fair Lady, Anything Goes, Sunset Boulevard and Back To The Future and Abigail Adriano for her performances in Miss Saigon and Haydestown. He was the resident Singing Teacher for The Book Of Mormon in 2019 and the most recent production now on tour, resident Voice and Singing Teacher for the ABC children’s television show Giggle and Hoot and did pre-rehearsal artist preparation for Kinky Boots, Frozen, Muriel’s Wedding and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Peter was also Voice Consultant on Dance Academy and Friday On My Mind for the ABC.
