Synopsis

Commercial auditions and self-tapes are a different beast. Without a clear approach, they can feel fast, awkward, and nothing like the kind of acting you trained for. It’s easy to second-guess everything and walk away feeling like you forgot how to act. Sure, some people get cast for having a “commercial face.” But so do you. Don’t use that as an excuse—you can make yourself more bookable. There’s a method to it. This workshop gives you a straight-up, practical approach to TVCs. You’ll learn how the process actually works, how to prep without overthinking, and how to deliver something they can say yes to. It will cover:
  • A step-by-step process from brief to final tape
  • How to prep for self-tapes, in-person castings, and Zoom callbacks
  • What to do when there’s no dialogue, no context, and no scene partner
  • Making the slate work for you (and what to avoid)
  • Aligning your materials with what actually gets cast
  • Line-learning tricks to handle jargon-heavy scripts fast
  • Connecting with the lens without freezing or faking it
  • Why commercials are worth it—for income, access, and on-set experience

Pip Edwards is the founder of Pip Edwards Creative, where she helps actors unlock their full potential—on screen, on stage, and in their careers. Her holistic approach blends craft, mindset, and strategy to help actors connect with their authentic expression and build sustainable, fulfilling careers. Pip teaches screen acting, auditioning, and industry navigation at institutions including NIDA, ACA, Screenwise, Sydney Actors School, and Sydney Actors Studio. With over 20 years’ experience as an actor, presenter, director, and in casting, Pip brings deep industry insight to her coaching. She trained at NIDA and holds a Bachelor of Creative Arts from the University of Melbourne, alongside further training with Larry Moss, Ivana Chubbuck, and Upright Citizens Brigade. She’s also TAFE certified in Arts Business, NLP, Somatic Trauma Coaching, and Training and Assessment. Straight out of NIDA, Pip believed booking commercials was all about how you looked- no doubt why she wasn’t booking all that many. That changed after working in commercial casting and digging into how the process actually works. She soon booked multiple national campaigns—and continues to do so today. Pip now shares that same booking method with her students through private coaching and TVC workshops, with great success.
