Synopsis

This is an opportunity for six Equity members (and their chosen partner) to work with Angela Blake over three 90-minute livestream sessions to create a short film (via a smart phone). During the first two sessions, Angela will advise on script, editing, and pre-production, production and postproduction so you will have an (almost) final film of between 30 seconds and no longer than three minute. The final session will be a screening of the final film and a detailed feedback session of the film. We will also discuss the festival strategy for each film. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to submit their short film to the annual SF3 aka the SmartFone Flick Fest.  In the making of the short film there are several options to choose from:
  • You can access a micro fiction (200 word story that you can adapt as a screenplay). The link to the micro-fictions is here in case you wish to make the film based on one of these ideas. If you choose this path then the writer of the micro-fiction will be credited for their story and you will be credited as the author of the screenplay.
  • You can write the script from your original idea - or
  • Make a film inspired by the festival’s word of the year BREATH.
Please note it isn’t compulsory for successful applicants to submit it to the festival and all films will need to go through a judging panel.
  • Criteria: Six Equity members will be randomly selected.  They will then commit to working with another Equity member (of their choice) to work on producing a smart phone short film (between 30 seconds and no longer than three minutes). Once a member has been selected they have 14 days to work with their Equity partner to produce a rough cut (can be just a few scenes) to show at the first session.  Angela will then give advice and feedback on story, production, post production so you can reshoot (if necessary) and bring their cut back for the second session. Further feedback will mean that you have an (almost) final short film to show at the third and final session. Auditors (observers) will be there as an audience and provide feedback and to also learn from this process
  • Please note: The livestreams are scheduled for Friday June 27, Friday July 11 and Friday July 25  – 12.00 pm to 1.30 pm AEST. If chosen as an actor participant you need to commit to attend all three sessions. There will be observers at these sessions. Unsuccessful applicants will be sent Zoom link to observe all sessions.
