Australian casting director Amanda Mitchell will talk to Equity member Nicole Nabout about the casting process, her advice for actors and what she has learnt along the way.

    Nicole is currently in rehearsals for The Australian Shakespeare 2025 production of Macbeth playing Lady Macbeth. Her recent TV credits include The Clearing (Disney+) and Return to Paradise (ABC and BBC). She performed in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Much Ado About Nothing for the ASC 2023/2024 in Melbourne and Sydney. Nicole was in the Australian premier of Selling Kabul at Red Stitch in 2023 and Because the Night at The Malthouse. Career highlights include playing Evie Mansour in the final season of Jack Irish, Nada in three seasons of The Librarians and Kate in Rob Connolly's film Three Dollars with David Wenham. Other film and TV credits include Angel of Mine; Newton’s Law; The Doctor Blake Mysteries; Nowhere Boys; The Time of our Lives; Offspring; Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries; Very Small Business; Blue Heelers and Last Man Standing. Theatre credits include Oil and Wakey Wakey, Red Stich; A Good Muslim Boy, Malthouse/QTC; Secret Bridesmaid’s Business, Playbox and Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummer Night’s Dream Royal Shakespeare Company. She studied with Jacques Lecoq in Paris.

    Originally from Singapore, Amanda worked in the film and television industry for four years before migrating to Australia.She has worked on hundreds of hours of Australian and international television, which most recently includes two seasons of Netflix’s highly acclaimed reboot of Heartbreak High, Stan & Sundance Now’s Totally Completely Fine (starring Thomasin McKenzie), Lingo Pictures’ television adaption of Markus Zusak’s award-winning novel The Messenger for the ABC and Northern Pictures’ comedy series Spreadsheet for Paramount Plus / Channel 10. Internationally, she has cast three seasons of NBC’s drama La Brea, as well as two seasons of NBC’s award-winning comedy Young Rock.Amanda has just wrapped on Lingo Pictures’ Prosper (Stan & Roku), an epic family drama set in an evangelical megachurch and she currently working on Northern Pictures new comedy series Austin (ABC), starring Ben Miller, Sally Phillips and Michael Theo.Amanda was the Australian casting director for Marvel’s highly successful SHANG-CHI & THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS (dir. Destin Daniel Cretton) and THOR LOVE & THUNDER (dir. Taika Waititi).Amanda also frequently performs consultancy work on international projects filming out of Australia, conducting extensive searches, most recently including: House of the Dragon (HBO), Yellowjackets (Showtime / eOne), Serpent Queen (STARZ), and Tell Me Lies (HULU).
