Synopsis

This is opportunity for actor and Equity member Clare Chihambakwe to chat to  Vancouver-based Australian actor and writer Ildiko Susany. Ildiko is currently a staff writer on Netflix's hit Virgin River and has written episodes in seasons 5 & 6.  As an actor, Ildiko has appeared in Alaska Daily (ABC) opposite Hilary Swank, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (NBC) , as well as Lost in Space (Netflix) and many more. Ildiko has navigated a successful Australian career into a flourishing North American career as both an actor and a writer. Ildiko will share  how she did this, what she has learnt along the way, her experience as an Australian actor working overseas and how she successfully moved into screenwriting, what it takes and what is is like to work as a Netflix staff writer on an international hit show.     Ildiko Susany is an actor and writer based in Vancouver, Canada. She is currently a staff writer on Netflix's hit, Virgin River and has written episodes in seasons 5 & 6. Ildiko wrote, directed, produced, and starred in her debut feature film Marley, Someone. The film won the Audience Choice Award at the Sydney Lift-Off Film Festival, was a semi-finalist at the Toronto Independent Film Festival of Cift, and made the official selection at the Vancouver Independent Film Festival. As an actor, Ildiko has appeared in Alaska Daily (ABC) opposite Hilary Swank, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (NBC) opposite Skylar Astin and Katie Findlay, as well as Lost in Space (Netflix), and Deadly Class (Syfy). For theatre, Ildiko has toured in Bell Shakespeare's award-winning production of Henry V and A Midsummer Night's Dream, and performed in A Man with Five Children (Darlinghurst Theatre Company), and Babes in the Woods (Redline Productions/Don't Look Away) among others. Ildiko was a participant of Netflix/Banff's Diversity of Voices Initiative which enabled her to pitch her series at the Banff World Media Festival. She was a recipient of a Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship where she trained at the Atlantic Acting School (NYC), The Second City (Chicago), and Bramon, Garcia & Braun (LA). Ildiko graduated with distinction from a Bachelor of Theatre Arts - Acting degree from the University of Southern Queensland. She is a proud member of the MEAA, WGA and UBCP/ACTRA.
  • Clare Chihambakwe

    Most recently Clare played the role of Angie in the the Greenroom nominated play Is God Is (Melbourne Theatre Company/Sydney Theatre Company) she also understudied and performed the role of Aseni in The Heartbreak Choir (Melbourne Theatre Company), prior to this she was a cast member of the original Australian production of the acclaimed Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Michael Cassel Group). Clare has appeared as Gary Coleman in Avenue Q (Arts Asia Pacific) and toured nationally with Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story (Live Theatre Productions), Eurobeat (Glynn Nicholas Group) and Dirty Dancing (Jacobsen Entertainment) which also toured to New Zealand. Clare has performed in both Sweet Charity and 42nd Street (The Production Company) and worked in New York, appearing as Agnes in Goldilocks (ODTC). Her television work includes Utopia, Love Me Season 2, Mustangs, Barracuda, Packed to the Rafters and Home and Away - in the ongoing role of Grace. Clare has also appeared in several films including Late Night with the Devil, Goddess, Happy Feet 2, the blockbuster Knowing and the upcoming feature film Better Man, The Robbie Williams biopic.
