In this livestream Shortland Street Casting Director Matt Dwyer discusses the casting process and his advice for actors with Equity member Jessi Williams. Please note: This livestream will take place at 12pm NZ time.  


  • Matt Dwyer

    Matt Dwyer joined the Casting team at Shortland Street in May 2019 before taking over to become Head of Casting in April 2020. He has worked in the New Zealand Casting Industry since 2002 (previous Casting Director with his brother at Barefoot Casting) & within the acting industry since 1995. He trained at Auckland’s Unitec Performing Arts School (1997 – 1999) & gained a Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts. Along with Casting at Shortland Street, Matt does an extensive amount of tutoring within the NZ On-Screen Performing Arts World – he works with Unitec Performing Arts, The Actors Program, Toi Whakaari, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa – Mangere, South Seas Film School, The Pan-Asian Screen Collective, Actors Lab, ATC Summer Holiday Program & Young adult courses at TAPAC
  • Jessi Willams

    Jessi is an experienced actor, voice-over artist, writer, and producer. After studying theatre and film at Waikato University, she moved to Hollywood, where she worked as an actor for several years and continued her training at the Brian Reise Studio in Los Angeles as well as NYFA at Universal Studios. Upon returning to New Zealand she completed The Actors' Program in Auckland.  She has performed extensively in film, TV, web series and theatre around the world in amazing locations such as Sydney, London, Paris, Stockholm and Hollywood. Her short film UPSIDE DOWN, which she co-wrote, produced and starred in has won several awards on the international festival circuit; including Best Short and Best Actress for Jessi at the Los Angeles Film Awards. Jessi has been a proud member of SAG-AFTRA in the United States and Equity NZ for the past 11 years.
