Synopsis

Ausdance has organised for the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance to provide a comprehensive, online education session on their Dance Industry Code of Practice. This session will be hosted by MEAA’s Industrial Officer, Tess Chappell, and MEAA’s Dancers Australia Lead Organiser, Andrew Markey. It will cover specific advice and discussion on the clauses of the Code, including:
  • dancer, dance teacher, and choreographer rates of pay;
  • payments and protections around recordings, social media, and AI;
  • workplace health and safety obligations; and,
  • contractual obligations under the Code.
Please note that the session is only open to Ausdance members. Participants do not need to be current members of MEAA / Dancers Australia.    

Host(s)

  • Andrew Markey

    Andrew Markey has been a MEAA Industrial Organiser for performers and crew since 2017, and in 2022 they became the National Lead Organiser for Dancers Australia, overseeing the creation and implementation of the Dance Industry Code of Practice.
  • Tess Chappell

    Tess Chappell is an Industrial Officer in Equity at MEAA, providing advice to and advocating for performers in the live performance industry. Tess joined MEAA after working for over 4 years as plaintiff employment lawyer, most recently at Maurice Blackburn. Prior to legal practice, Tess completed a Bachelor of Performing Arts and was involved in the Melbourne independent theatre community as a production manager and stage manager.
