Synopsis

A  three hour in person workshop at the Dreamsreen Australia Studio,  (77 Willandra Drive, Epping, Melbourne), and a chance for Equity members to gain an insight into motion capture (mocap) and the opportunities available to all actors. This in person workshop has been set up to give you a unique opportunity to get to know the tech and explore how you can bring out your best performance when working with it.  We will begin with a demonstration to give you an understanding of how the tech works, including what to expect when on a job, the studio protocols to follow, and how your performance contributes to the final product. The demo is then followed by a practical 'taster' workshop in how to approach mocap work for game production.  There will be time for Q&A throughout the experience. The session will be delivered in collaboration with Lyndall Grant from Captivate Action, Virtual Production Studio Dreamscreen Australia, and Mocap tech specialists Tracklab.  It is open to performers, game designers, film makers, and anyone with an interest in this dynamic field. Background: Motion capture is one of the most exciting media to perform in as an actor.  Used extensively in gaming, film, TV, VR and even live performance, it uses all aspects of the performer's toolbox - with high-energy movement, heightened emotion, detailed story-telling and technical accuracy all combining.  Motion capture and performance capture acting allows nuanced and life-filled animated characters, and opens up imaginative scenarios, creatures and action. Although the tech is widely used, many actors do not get the chance to interact with it so this is a wonderful opportunity to get a head start. Due to the workshop conditions places are limited and placement will be by ballot.  All members will be notified either way. Please note that this will be filmed and edited and will be available for viewing by early January.  No actor taking part will be included in the filming so confidentiality is assured. Please note: This in-person Melbourne event will take place from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM (Melbourne time) in Epping.
