During this two-part online course with Chris Corbett six actors will be given the chance to learn how a writers' room works and how TV shows are written. Over two 90-minute sessions (March 5 and March 12 @12pm AEDT) participants will take part in brainstorming a concept for a TV show and plotting the first few scenes. This course is perfect for actors interested in writing for TV, or just curious about how TV shows are written. The sessions will be available for Equity members to audit/observe.
Session One: Participants will brainstorm a concept for a TV show (the idea will be sent to the participants a few days before the session). Brainstorming a TV show can take anywhere from two full days to a week, so in the time we have available to us, we will only barely scratch the surface, but it will still give you a glimpse into how the process works. Chris will also run through how the process works, the various roles, how to develop your storytelling skills, etiquette in the room, and habits of mind to work on to be a good collaborator.
Session Two: We will use the TV show premise that we developed and will start work on the beginnings of the plotting process. In the time we have, we won’t get far, but we will capture how the process works in microcosm.
Please note: The six successful applicants will need to be available to meet with Chris for a short zoom meeting beforehand to go through what is required and give them the concept for the TV show we will be developing. For those who wish to work with Chris please note this is a two week commitment so please don’t apply to take part unless you can commit to the whole process and please note that observers (auditors) will be present and will participate in any Q and A.
