Synopsis
- Ways into an individual read alongside the audition/ narratives context. As Dr Seus said, ‘…there is no youier you than you’. Expect to experiment and play.
- Ways into taking direction so you can provide two differing tapes for the director.
- Ways into character: Kate is an advocate for the body. She believes it speaks raw truth. Expect to use your body when you work with Kate.
- Ways into script analysis and research that is both fun and embodied.
- Ways into the technical elements of self-tape work including supporting family members as readers.
- Ways into the ‘talk to camera’ which is sometimes the hardest part of a self-tape.

Kate Ellis
Kate Ellis loves what she does. She recently returned from world Drama conferences in Iceland and Aotearoa (NZ) to talk about it. As an Acting Coach, she has worked on productions such as The Saddle Club, Mako: Island of Secrets, Judy & Punch and That’s Not Me. She facilitates programs for internationally recognised acting schools such as 16th Street and TAFTA and has/had private clients such as Lucy Fry (Bright, Godfather of Harlem), Aisha Dee (Safe Home, Bold Type), Martha Berhane (Rent), Shewit Belay (Wicked), Jessica Green (The Librarians); and has worked with the incredible Miranda Harcourt. Kate has been contracted for six consecutive years by the DET and Drama Victoria to facilitate vital and joyous workshops for young people (the Blended Arts Program, the Positive Start Initiative & Next Stage). As an educator she has been a Head of Drama; and has created Education Resources for such bodies as Victorian Opera and Opera Australia. She has taught student teachers at Melbourne University, writers through Writers Victoria and The Wheeler Centre; and has created and facilitated community programs for MPavilion, The Abbotsford Convent & for the Victorian Arts Education Festival. She is on the board of the Australian Children’s Theatre Foundation and her writing can be found in various publications.
