Synopsis

Equity Foundation & The Equity Youth Committee present: an evening with the highly experienced and wonderful Alexandra Whitham as she delves into the distinctive features that define the Australian accent. From mastering the flat vowels and diphthongs to understanding the rising intonation patterns, you'll gain practical insights into sounding authentically Aussie. You will leave this in person workshop with tools to elevate your trans-Tasman career!

  • Alexandra Whitham

    Alexandra has lived and worked as Voice & Dialect Coach and Theatre Director in the UK, Australia, the USA, and New Zealand. She is currently the Specialist in Voice within the Faculty of Fine Arts & Music at the Victorian College of the Arts (University of Melbourne, Australia). Prior to this, she was the Senior Lecturer in Voice and Discipline Leader of the BA Acting Programme at Te Whare Wānanga o Wairaka/ Unitec Institute of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand. Alexandra also freelances as a Dialogue Coach for TV, theatre, and film. Her recent credits include Pike (31 Films), A Mistake (GFC Films), Joika (Four Knights Film), The Heartbreak Choir (Auckland Theatre Company), Once (Peach Theatre Company), and advertising campaigns for Weetbix, Good Oil/ Cadbury, and Xero Accounting Software. Alexandra is a regular guest lecturer at the University of Adelaide Elder Conservatorium of the Arts (AUS), Actors’ Equity (NZ), the Media & Entertainment Arts Alliance (AUS), Creating Artists (AUS), and The Actors’ Program (NZ). Her previous teaching contracts have included The Kristin Linklater Voice Centre (UK),Toi Whakaari Drama School (NZ), East 15 (UK), the Oxford School of Drama (UK), the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama (UK), and the Academy of Live & Recorded Arts (UK). She holds an Advanced Diploma of Acting from AIT Arts (South Australia), a BA from Flinders University (South Australia), a Master’s Degree in Voice Studies from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (UK), and is a Designated Linklater Voice Teacher.
