Synopsis

Equity Foundation & The Equity Youth Committee present: an evening with the highly experienced and wonderful Alexandra Whitham as she delves into the distinctive features that define the Australian accent. From mastering the flat vowels and diphthongs to understanding the rising intonation patterns, you'll gain practical insights into sounding authentically Aussie. You will leave this in person workshop with tools to elevate your trans-Tasman career!

  • Alexandra Whitham

    Alexandra Whitham is a voice & dialect coach, theatre director, and university lecturer with over 25 years of international experience in the fields of education, and arts & entertainment. Her recent faculty roles have included Specialist in Voice at the Victorian College of the Arts (University of Melbourne, Australia), and Senior Lecturer in Voice and Discipline Leader of the BA Acting Programme (Te Whare Wānanga o Wairaka/ Unitec Institute of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand). She holds an MA in Voice Studies from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (UK), an Advanced Diploma of Arts- Acting (AU), and is a Designated Linklater Voice Teacher (UK). Her credits as a dialect coach include feature films Pike River (31 Films), A Mistake (GFC Films), Joika (Four Knights Films), and 25 April (GFC); TV Shows Our Flag Means Death (HBO Max) and Will (TNT); advertising campaigns for Good Oil/ Cadbury (2021), Xero Accounting Software (2019) and Electric Kiwi (2019-20); and theatre shows The Heartbreak Choir (Auckland Theatre Company), Once (Peach Theatre Company) and Gwen in Purgatory (Twist Productions). Alexandra also runs workshops and courses for communities such as the University of Adelaide Elder Conservatorium of Music, Collarts, JMC, The Union House Theatre, the Auckland Theatre Company, The Actors’ Program, and Toi Whakaari. Alexandra is delighted to return to teach with MEAA in 2025
